Here’s to a long machine life

Saving energy and conserving resources is vital when it comes to your carbon footprint.
IMA Schelling also takes into account an often overlooked sustainability factor: the durability of machines.

Nothing is more sustainable than using a machine for a long time,“ says Thomas Inmann, Department Manager of Service Consulting/Sales at IMA Schelling. The resource and energy savings when a new machine does not have to be produced may not be recorded in a carbon footprint, but are substantial.

The IMA Schelling Group offers its customers various services to extend the life cycle of their machines. The manufacturer‘ s machines and plants are of such a high quality in the first place that they already boast a long service life. Service that is readily available around the globe as well as comprehensive service packages ensure that machines are put back into operation quickly in the event of servicing, thereby avoiding costly production downtimes. IMA Schelling offers two services that are designed to extend the service life even further:

MODERNISATIONS

In this case, components and control systems are aligned with the current state of the art. By modernising control and drive technology, retrofitting machining components or updating software, the efficient service life of machines and plants can be extended by years, at comparatively low costs.

DISCONTINUATION MANAGEMENT

Discontinuation management guarantees the long-term availability of spare parts for IMA Schelling customers. If an IMA Schelling supplier discontinues a spare part, Thomas Inmann‘s team jumps into action. Customers in whose plants the affected parts are installed are proactively contacted. „We not only notify them that a spare part is due to be discontinued, but will also have developed an alternative solution that often works even more efficiently,“ says Inmann. This not only extends the service life of the machines, but also makes maintenance and repairs easier to plan, thereby increasing machine availability.

Another important factor is that IMA Schelling always uses the most state-of-the-art and therefore most energy-efficient technology, both when replacing components within the scope of a modernisation and when providing an alternative to spare parts that are no longer available. Both of these things increase not only the durability of a plant but also its sustainability.
