The path to higher productivity in the aluminium processing industry also leads via automated processes. IMA Schelling Precision will be presenting a world first at the ALUMINIUM 2022 trade fair: the saw-robot combination.

Through automatic handling of the workpieces, the the articulated arm robot turns the manual saw into an automated machining cell.

The combination of a panel-sizing saw for aluminium from the fm series with an articulated-arm robot as well as an air-cushion manipulation surface achieves an unprecedented level of productivity. The fully automated solution is tailored to cut-size sheets as well as large offcuts. In this interaction, the robot takes over the feeding and handling of the aluminium plates at the saw. Finished blanks and remnants are automatically stacked by the robot arm. Trimming waste above a certain size is sorted by alloy into separate containers.

The concept of automated cutting in a shielded robot cell without a saw operator allows significantly faster programme sequences compared to a manually operated saw. In addition, the saw-robot combination always works at an optimally high speed and does not require any pause times. This frees up resources that can be used in other ways. Thus, a significantly higher throughput in operation is possible with the same/reduced workforce.

The energy management of the saw-robot combination is also trimmed for efficiency. The integrated control system only supplies as much energy as is needed for the current process. During non-productive times, the electric motors reduce to low speeds, but not completely. This is because starting up from standstill would consume more energy than running at idle speed.

Another trade fair highlight from IMA Schelling Precision is a visualisation of the AMD (Automatic Manipulation Device), which combines manipulation surface and robot technology. AMD is aimed at the aluminium processing industry, which expects a high degree of automation, increased performance and savings in operating personnel.

In addition, the company partner TAC-Performance will be presenting itself together with IMA Schelling for the first time at ALUMINIUM 2022. The latter provides consulting and conceptual services to ensure that IMA Schelling systems are equipped with high-performance saw blades and thus achieve even greater productivity.

IMA Schelling welcomes you to ALUMINIUM in Düsseldorf from 27 to 29 September 2022 in Hall 3, Stand E22.
