For the production of printed circuit boards - Special saw for demanding PCBs

It takes the proverbial velvet gloves to cut wafer-thin copper laminates precisely and accurately to the format of electronic circuit boards. To meet these requirements, IMA Schelling Precision has developed a sawing system with fully automated feeding.

The saw is fed automatically by means of a lifting table, vacuum feed, fence-free alignment and paper pull-out.

The sensitive copper laminates require extremely precise and gentle processing that leaves neither scratches nor creases, nor burrs, dust or grease residues. The fp6 sawing system specially designed by IMA Schelling Precision now completely takes over what was previously done manually with great effort.

Specialised automation solution for sawing in the clean room

For efficient and careful processing of the copper laminates, IMA Schelling Precision has designed a saw with an automated feed system consisting of a lifting table, vacuum feed and paper pull-out. A powerful extraction system ensures residue-free machining - including dust protection, which creates a tight extraction channel over the entire length of the pressure beam. Designed for laminate cutting in the required clean room. The associated levelling table also prevents damage due to impact-free alignment.

The sawing concept offers the usual high cutting quality from IMA Schelling Precision and works burr-free. A corner rounding device rounds off the sharp corners after the cut for subsequent reuse of the panels.

Precise and independent processing of the laminates

Stacks of several stacked copper laminates are sawn, reinforced with underlay and cover plates. The laminates on the pallets are first cut open on all four sides by the machine operator, after which the laminates are fed into the machine. The paper extractor recognises the layers of paper between the stacks of sheets and sorts them out independently. The vacuum gripper then uses suction cups to place the individual copper laminates on the stop-free levelling table.

As soon as all the laminates have been positioned on the base plate and the top plate has been placed down, the cutting process begins - with the fp6 saw from IMA Schelling Precision, which is extremely precise, scratch-free, smear-free and almost 100% dust-free. While the cut copper laminates leave the machine, the vacuum feeder automatically prepares a new laminate pack for sawing.

For laminate thicknesses of less than 0.1 millimetres, which cannot be fed automatically, IMA Schelling Precision offers a preparation table with air cushion technology for manual handling, which allows the extremely flat panels to glide safely over the work area.
