Drilling, milling, grooving, dowel insertion – with automatic set up

The IMAGIC L1 allows machining without manual set-up of the machine, even for batch sizes of 1.

No matter whether drilling, milling, grooving or hardware mounting: the IMA Schelling IMAGIC L1 through-feed drilling machine can be individually adapted to all customer requirements in terms of the type of machining, the machining scope and the required output. This is made possible by standard modules that can be put together and supplemented for specific applications over the length of up to three machining bridges.

EASY DRILL BIT CHANGE, GOOD ACCESSIBILITY

The new batch size 1 drilling machine impresses with a number of innovations that are currently unique to the market. The many mounting options on both sides of the machining supports enable optimal distribution of the machining operations as well as parallel machining on the support front and rear, depending on the component. Whether pure drilling or any combination of milling, drilling, dowel insertion and hardware mounting, the customer requirements determine the configuration of the machine.

Up to three machining supports can be installed on a machine. The integration of a milling spindle with a stationary tool changer is available as an option. Appropriate parking and maintenance positions on the unit ensure easy drill bit changing and good accessibility in case of maintenance.

IN A PERMANENT CLAMP

IMA Schelling Group developed the IMAGIC L1 in collaboration with technology partner Zimmer Group based in Rheinau. The patented Zimmer transport system with circulating clamping grippers move the workpieces in a permanent, fixed clamp through the whole plant, even where there are multiple machining supports.

This brings a number of combined benefits. Clamping means the workpiece gaps and therefore the chipto- chip times can be kept to a minimum. Together with the high dynamics of the whole system, this results in increased plant availability and enhanced machine performance.

MANUAL OR AUTOMATIC

Due to the modular design, the IMAGIC L1 drilling unit can be configured either as a manually operated or automated drilling cell. It can also be integrated into complex production lines without limitations. When configured as a manual drilling cell, the operator can operate the machine alone from the front thanks to the space-saving return system. Automation is easy to implement using handling gantries or robots.

Fully automatic operation can be effected in combination with a robot that feeds and removes the parts and can place and turn them in any position and at any angle. The full variability of the drilling unit becomes apparent when it is integrated into production lines. Adaptation to changing environmental conditions is also possible without problem.

„We developed the IMAGIC L1 drilling machine specifically for highly efficient and varied production situations,“ explains Jens Jeroch, Product Manager. „It attracts lots of customer interest and the first machines will be delivered over the course of 2023.“
